hey cmon now give us a break - between cramming our heads full of abstruse facts in the lib and then drinking ourselves silly again in the West End, it's tough to find time for anything else.

Word up! I live in Brooklyn, so I def don't hang out around campus -- it's an "in & out" venture for me. Also, the only thing I've ever done in the West End is eat a salad. Not all of us are in our early 20s and/or spend our free time getting plastered. So, my question is what is this tribe really all about? Are we just here for whatever random conversation arises? Let's talk goals and purpose...hahaha...had you goin didn't I?!
      • OK, looks like we're keeping this thread going w/ an average of 1 post per month. (No, there's not THAT much book-worming or binging, let me tell ya.) So the deal is, O dear luscious one, that, let's face it, there's way more cooler shiit goin' on in this pestilential city than in Morn Heights. Although I'm stationed up here, I, like a horny private stuck on his remote base, get the hell out when the first opportunity arises. I'm also a native Brooklynite (grew up in Crown Heights), so no NY 'hood ties me down. &, obviously, I trek back to Bklyn to look up soy familia e amigos every once in a while. But, understand, when you grow up in B-lyn you fantasize your whole life about getting the fluck OUT, baby (Let me tell ya: Hipster B-lyn aint the B-lyn of the 70's & 80's). I need a real good reason to get sucked back in. So go ahead, give me one. (Here was one: I was just at the closing of Halcyon on Smith Street this Sun night. What a tragedy! I was there the first month they opened 4-5 years ago. We hung out while my hombres of "Undercity" fame spun till 1-2AM & then, w/o fanfare, the place just emptied. They say they're gonna open up again in DUMBO but only to sell LPs. Sucks. But then I just went back to the city to "Souk" afterhours in Alphabet City...)

Having said that, THIS heights has begun to grow on me & I've come to appreciate the landmark architecture, the zany personalities hanging around the Hungarian Pastery Shop, Riverside Park now beginning to bud (not exactly Prospect Park...), the thug dealers of 108-109, &, oh, Barnard (not to mention more than 1/2 of Columbia's pop.). But I can't stand the overpricing, the stilted WASPs, the windy tunnel-effect streets, & the neverending construction.

So if its goals & purpose you want (or not), you won't get it from me. This tribe, like many others, is just another excuse for people to reinforce their own aspects of identity & thereby feel like more "full" & complete portrait by seeing their self-created list of group they "belong" to (I may be guilty of this too, but let's at least admit it); but do you really think this is about CONNECTING??? So, Mama L (or is it Sis), that's why no one writes here b/c, beyond just joining up, there's no real reason to communicate. A community of mutes, you can say. But amongst the multitudes of digitalized members (not "people") listed here there are a select few that, behind all the static data, are real flesh & bone. You seem to be one such living, breathing dame. God bless you.

Gotta stop procrastinating & continue my paper, so, till next time we meet, ciao & blossomy spring!

If you respond soon I may even reply in the month of April!
        • ha! we def gotta chill mang. i hear u about the corpse action goin on here...lol. all the action is in other tribes, not this one. i live in prospect heights :). what do u say to brunch at tom's. or, we can meet up in ur new 'hood. whateva's cleva. and either mama or sis is fine (thanks for asking).
          • Action is wherever we are. & I can tell that you're PRO-active too!

I was just in your/my hood yesterday for the BMA bash. DId you go?

Stunning new ampitheater & fountain, not to mention the rearrangement of the art & the "Open House" of more than 40 Brooklyn-living artists. This is MY museum. This is where me & mom, soaked up art from the youngest age. (I'm 3rd generation Crown Heights-Prospect Heights: my grandparents moved to near Ebbets Field on the GI Bill after grandpa finished serving in WWII. My mom went to the school next to the museum & I went to school on Eastern Parkway & Brooklyn Ave.). If I knew how to contact you I'd have invited you to join. A friend, the same one who was spinning at Halcyon last week, was DJing in the lobby 5-6:30 PM. He's a Burner, & a bunch of us NY Burners got together & hung out. I stayed till closing & soaked up all the artifact vestiges of civilization, & then, of course, hit the town (don't ask, I still haven't gone to sleep yet...).

I Read your post on the B-klyn tribe about Tom's (NOT Tom's near Columbia, thank God!). Sounds fine 'n dandy, although I think you mentioned that they're closed on Sun. Do you ever come into the city? Uptown? Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind hanging out w/ you in the Botanical Gardens (I havn't been there in a couple of years). Come to think of it, let's meet anywhere.

Anyways, here's the deal: I'm gonna send you a private message w/ my e-mail address & digits. So do your thang grrrl! ;) & you can slip me yours too!

            >< Sun 'n Fun (& lotion too) ><
